Welcome Spring with an uplifting afternoon of music featuring flute soloist Ana Fernandes and the Amstelveens Harmonie Orkest!

Sunday 8th March at 3:00 PM in the Paaskerk, Amstelveen. Conductor Yvonne de Winter

Welcome to AmSO

AmSO is an ambitious and vibrant amateur orchestra bringing together dedicated musicians who share a passion for symphonic music. Our players come from diverse backgrounds, united by a commitment to musical excellence, curiosity, and the joy of performing together.

Under the direction of our conductor, Yvonne de Winter, the orchestra explores a broad repertoire — from well-loved classical works to lesser-known gems — always striving for expressive, engaging performances.

“Making music together is about more than precision — it’s about energy, colour, and connection. An orchestra thrives when every musician feels inspired and challenged.”
Yvonne de Winter, Conductor

We warmly welcome new musicians who are eager to rehearse, grow, and perform with us. For more details, go to the ‘Play with us’ page.

News & Upcoming

Two orchestras from Amstelveen — the Symphony Orchestra and the “Harmonie Orkest”  — will join forces for the third time to present a concert together. We’ll perform three pieces as a combined ensemble and several works separately. The previous editions were completely sold out.

Interestingly, about half of the Symphony Orchestra’s musicians were born elsewhere in the world. Music connects us all.

The program is accessible, entertaining, and carefully selected — nothing long-winded! Together we’ll perform melodies from The Lion King and another musical.

Ana Raquel Fernandes, a talented young flautist will perform a flute concerto by Cécile Chaminade. You’ll immediately hear why this composer has been rediscovered in recent years. For more info about Ana, go to our ‘In the spotlight’ page.

Dvořák often drew inspiration from the folk music of Bohemia, which shines through beautifully in his popular Czech Suite.

The Wind Orchestra will also play exciting melodies from the film Ghost Ship, the always festive Radetzky March, and more.

Looking ahead, we are also very much looking forward to our next concerts, which will take place again in Broek in Waterland and in the Paaskerk in Amstelveen in May 2026. The program will center on Beethoven’s Sixth Symphony, the much-loved Pastorale, whose evocative depiction of nature will form the heart of the evening. This will be beautifully balanced by Dvořák’s Czech Suite, full of color and dance-like vitality, and by Chaminade’s elegant and expressive Concertino for flute with orchestral accompaniment, adding a touch of French charm and virtuosity to the program.

Last November we were delighted to welcome back young talent Katja Naegele on the violin, when she gave a wonderful performance of the third movement of Lalo’s Symphonie Espagnole. Her playing was met with great enthusiasm and added a special brilliance to the evening. Please enjoy videos from this and other recent concerts below.
