It is always an honour to welcome and support solo musicians, incorporating a solo opportunity in each of our concerts. The soloists are always local and often new emerging musicians. Here is an example of some very talented musicians with whom we have recently had the pleasure of playing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Young talent<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Working with and supporting local young talent is an important part of our philosophy, offering emerging artists the opportunity to play solo pieces with a full orchestra. We are committed to supporting young musicians and our proud to be part of their journey. We wish them all the best as they further their wonderful and inspiring careers in music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ana Raquel Fernandes<\/strong>, flute<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>
\n

Ana Raquel <\/strong>is a Portuguese flautist who began her musical studies at the age of seven. She trained at the Conservat\u00f3rio de Palmela and later completed a Professional Diploma in Wind Instrument Performance at the Escola Profissional Metropolitana in Lisbon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She has performed extensively as an orchestral musician, including a three-year collaboration with the Orquestra Cl\u00e1ssica Metropolitana, and has appeared as a soloist and ensemble player at festivals such as the Porto Flute Festival and Ver\u00e3o Cl\u00e1ssico. She has participated in masterclasses with leading international flautists including Emily Beynon and Peter Verhoyen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2022, she recorded a CD dedicated to Portuguese music associated with the Revolution of Freedom. Since relocating to the Netherlands, she has collaborated with conductor Jac van Steen and taken part in projects with the Dutch National Opera. She is currently completing her bachelor\u2019s degree at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague, where she studies with Jeroen Bron.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Sham\u00e1ti Willemse, harp<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the course of three concerts, Sham\u00e1ti captivated the audience with her performance of Claude Debussy’s Danse sacr\u00e9e et danse profane<\/em> alongside our string ensemble. Sham\u00e1ti’s profound connection to the harp was evident as her fingers danced across the strings, producing sounds that resonated deeply with all in attendance. Sham\u00e1ti’s interpretation was both sensitive and dynamic, capturing the ethereal beauty of the “Danse sacr\u00e9e” and the spirited energy of the “Danse profane.” Performing with Sham\u00e1ti was a delightful experience for our orchestra. Her passion and artistry brought Debussy’s composition to life, creating a memorable evening for both musicians and audience members alike. We are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with such a promising young talent and we look forward to seeing her musical journey continue to flourish!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Katja Naegele, violin <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Katja made the audience hold their breath in wonder at her undeniable talent and skill, moving all with her slow, mature passages and astounding us with her incredible speed during the allegros. It was a wonderful experience for the orchestra to play with her and members of the audience expressed true gratitude to be able to see this up and coming talent in action. Shortly before performing with us, in January 2024, Katja won first prize in the Nederlands Vioolconcours categorie Iordans B. Katja played Saint-Sa\u00ebns Havanaise which mixes strong emotion with virtuosity, a musical feast for all!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vincent Kalk, cello<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vincent Kalk chose two challenging cello solo pieces to impress the audience, showcasing passion, colour and outstanding skill. His playing demonstrated maturity and a depth unusual at this young age and the cello sung out, enchanting all with deep full tones and nuances, perhaps only achievable by masters of this beautiful instrument. Glauzonov’s Chant de Menestral (1900) comes from the late Romantic times and offered Vincent a chance to bewitch all with heartfelt emotion, contrasting well with the technical gymnastics of Saint-Sa\u00ebn’s Allegro Appassionato, op 43.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Celebrating our own talent<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We are fortunate to have many skilled and talented members in our own orchestra and it is a privilege to welcome them also as soloists in our concerts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Virginia Cinelli<\/strong>, violin<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Virginia Cinelli graduated with a Masters in Performance from the Fontys Academy of Fine and Performing Arts (Tilburg) where she was taught by Chris Duindam and Mara Oosterbaan. In November 2022 Virginia was the solo violinist in our concert, stunning everyone with her ‘Gypsy Airs’ in Pablo de Sarasate’s Zigeunerweisen Op.20 (1878). The orchestra is proud and honoured to have welcomed her as a soloist and as Concertmeester for several years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sergei Romansky<\/strong>, viola<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2021 Sergei Romansky celebrated an incredible achievement, having played professionally for fifty years in Ukraine. In February 2022 war broke out and Sergei and his family moved from Ukraine to the Netherlands. AmSO was very fortunate to be able to welcome him and his equally talented wife, Sima, to our orchestra. In March 2023 Sergei delighted our audiences with his breathtaking and sensitive playing of Johann Hummel’s Fantasie for Viola (1820). It is apparent that he has an incredible connection to his viola, with its warm tones and versatility, and this beauty shone out in the concert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
